Preliminary Tasks

01

Camera Shots and Angles

September 10th

For this task, students were told to research clips from movies and shows and find 2 different angles and 2 different shots to be able to identify the many different types of angles and shots.

Composition

September 19th

Students were tasked to analyze the camerawork and composition of a movie or TV show opening to explain how these choices create meaning. They are then required to turn these observations into a series of short paragraphs focusing on the opening two minutes of the chosen media.

Technical Element of Sound

October 1st

Students were tasked with finding examples of specific technical sound elements from various movies or TV shows, providing a link and timestamp for each. They were then told to analyze how these sound choices create meaning in the media and describe the emotional response they are intended to get from the audience.

Case Study

October 27th

Students had to analyze the technical sound elements of various media clips by providing timestamps and explaining how the audio constructs meaning or tries to evoke emotion. Additionally, they were required to perform a mise-en-scène analysis on both a chosen film scene and an advertisement to describe how visual elements establish mood, represent characters, and convey narrative or product value.

Editing Part 1

October 31st

For this task, students were told to partner up with the person they sit next to. After students were partnered up, they were tasked with choosing two scenes from two different movies and tallying every shot change. With this information, students had to answer questions based on the tallies.

Think like a.... Film editor

November 6th

Students were required to analyze technical sound elements and mise-en-scène across various media to explain how they constructed meaning and elicited emotional responses. Additionally, they were tasked with collaborating with a partner to storyboard a 25-shot sequence for a new thriller film.

Final Decision

Febuary 19th

For my blog, I have decided to choose print as my form of representation in my project. For the genre, I have chosen to research various wind ensembles because music interests me, and incorporating my interest into this project allows me to learn new things. I am choosing print for my blog because I work better when my thoughts are written down.

Activity 4.2

March 2nd

For this task, I had to get a 5-minute clip from a tv show of my choice and then break down the clip into many different scenes and give a general outline to the entire clip.

Activity 6.3

March 4th

Students were tasked with researching O'Reily Media and discover what they mainly focus on publishing. After students understood genres of publications, they had to act as if they worked for Getty Publications and either accept or reject a fashion magazine pitch from a new company, to decide whether to work with them.
